Abstract
Isokinetic test was performed to 30 professional baseball players to investigate if shoulder internal/exteranl rotator, trunk muscle, and knee extensor/flexor strength, power are correlated with throwing speed. There was no significance correlation between ball speed and all shoulder variables, except shoulder external average power at 210¡Æ/sec. Significance correlation were found between ball speed and all trunk flexion variables at 30, 60, 150¡Æ/sec. There was significance correlation between ball speed and trunk extension peak torque, peak torque % body weight, and average power at 30¡Æ/sec, trunk extension peak torque, peak torque % body weight at 60¡Æ/sec. Also there was no significance correlation between ball speed and all knee variables, except knee extension peak torque at 240¡Æ/sec. These results demonstrate that trunk flexor/extensor strength and power are correlated with throwing speed. Therefore, preferential strength and power training for trunk flexor/extensor in professional baseball pitchers is recommended.
